Time for Tumbling

The girls have started their first tumbling class! In the spring they took a Hip Hop/Jazz class and seemed to like it, so this time we thought we would give tumbling a try.  We are two classes in and they seem to really enjoy it.  Addi is doing much better with tumbling than she did with dance.  I'm not sure if this is because she is just older, her teacher keeps her engaged, or she just likes it better.  I love their teacher this time Miss Maddie, she makes them follow directions and pay attention to her.  This is a huge improvement over their previous teacher who was very nice but most of the time did not have control over her class.

So far the girls have worked on bear crawls, crab crawls, forward rolls, back bends and a little bit of back flips out of their back bends.

The girls have class every Wednesday night and it is exciting to see them making new friends and learning to be patient and perfecting their tumbling skills!  I cannot wait to see what all they can do at the end of their class time with Miss Maddie!

Campground Fun

We spent the Saturday of Labor Day weekend at the campground.  The campground was hosting a carnival for the children in order to raise money for the play ground they are in the process of building.  What a fun way to spend our day watching all the little ones have so much fun... Once all the children had arrived we headed up to the carnival only to have it start raining about 5 minutes after we got there.  So we headed back to the camper and all the children played inside the porch while the rain poured down.  It stopped raining so we loaded everyone up again and headed back to the carnival.  We might have made it 15 minutes this time before the rain came again and stopped our carnival game fun.  This time the rain didn't stop and we never did make it back to the carnival, however, we did all have a good time catching up, playing games, and watching the little ones play before our cookout!

There was a bake sale that evening as another fundraiser for the playground equipment and this time we were able to go without getting rained on.  So while the adults watched the bake sale auction the children played on the play ground equipment that was built, played on the gulf carts and played in the mud.  

Okay I shouldn't say they all played on Mud Mountain but Harlow, Addi & Aubrey sure had a good time!  All three of the girls were covered in mud by the time the bake sale was finished and it was time to head back to the camper.  Fortunately they were up for some picture posing first.

 

The carnival might have gotten rained out but these girls had just as much fun playing on a big mud pile that they didn't even miss the carnival.  Time with their cousins is always a fun time!  What a great way to spend a Saturday in the summer!

Kindergarten Update!

Wow, where has the time gone?  It feels like only yesterday that Aubrey started kindergarten and already a month has flown by.  There has been so much happening in the Scroggins' House that sometimes taking a moment to breath feels like a vacation.  Not only has Aubrey had to adjust to her new Kindergarten life but who would have thought it would be an adjustment for all of us?  Aubrey seems to be enjoying school for the most part, though I am a little concerned that only four weeks in she has already been asking when Kindergarten will be over with.  I am not sure if it is the being in school all day or just the fact that she isn't able to play with her friend Trynadee every single day that makes her wish school was over.  If I had to guess it would be the not seeing Tryn (Aubrey came up with this nickname a few years ago for her).  I know Addi misses not having Aubrey at the sitters with her everyday also, but for the most part she has handled it pretty well!  

Aubrey goes to Latch Key every morning before school and every afternoon once school is over, she really likes Latch Key and Mrs. Sutton.  It is nice to see that some of the other children in Aubrey's class are in there as well so she gets a little extra playtime with them.  Aubrey likes to eat breakfast at school so she has been doing that pretty consistently for the last several weeks.  Most days for lunch she eats peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (this is the alternative if you don't want the other 2 options for the day).  

This past week Aubrey started learning how to read.  It is hard to believe that they start teaching children how to read so early but they do and she is doing okay with it.  We practice the books she brings home every night until she can read them back to me.  As her reward for practicing and learning her book she is allowed to pick someone to call and ask them if she can read her story to them.  This is a big deal for her and she really enjoys making the phone call and reading to whom ever she chooses.  We are busy working on her patience and early learning skills and hopefully soon she will get the Super Kid Award (which means she passed all the early learning skills).  

We are doing good with our morning and evening routines and I think it has helped both Aubrey & Addi settle down and fall asleep for the evening.  So far the Scroggins' House is surviving Kindergarten and keeping our sanity in check.  It hasn't come without some frustration and tears (mostly Aubrey's) but we hanging in there!

1st Day of Kindergarten

Well today is the day... Aubrey's 1st day of Kindergarten.  We still cannot believe that she is big enough to be a Kindergartner.  She was ready, she has been talking since the end of Preschool about going to Kindergarten and making new friends.  The last few days we could tell she was getting nervous but after a talk last night with daddy she was feeling better and ready to go again.  She slept really well last night, and woke up with no issues this morning.  Well, okay there was one issue, but we knew it was coming.  Monday night when we were at her Kindergarten Open House the PTO had packets for all of the children, in the packet was a yellow shirt that said "Making Friends @ Daleville Elementary.  They asked that all the Kindergartners wore their shirts on the 1st day of school.  

The shirt was cute but anyone who knows Aubrey, knows this is not her thing... So what is wrong with this shirt you ask? Well according to Aubrey: it's yellow (which is not a girl color), it's a t-shirt (this just will not do for school), and it is too big (enough said there).  After she saw the shirt at the school I knew I was going to have to find a way to make this shirt work for the 1st day of school.  Not to mention Aubrey's exact words were this is not as good as one of her "cute" outfits that she has for school.  Wow wonder what she is going to be like when she is older.  Aubrey has always been a fashionista, so I expected nothing short of her not liking the t-shirt.

So we rolled the sleeves, tied the back, and paired with some black star leggings and a black skirt and waaa laaa....

We at least have an outfit she is comfortable enough in to wear for her big day!  Oh, and of course it is August and only 50 degrees outside this morning so we took our pictures quickly!  

Once we all got to the school we walked her in and all the children and their parents were waiting in the cafeteria to be dismissed by the principal per grade level for their 1st day of school.  Aubrey looked a little nervous sitting in the cafeteria waiting, she would not look at me for a picture which was a dead giveaway that she was nervous.

She made it to her class and put her backpack away and had a seat at her desk, I know she is going to have so much fun in Kindergarten.  It looks like she has a good group of children to make friends with and her teacher and aids seem really nice!  

I cannot wait until 2:50 p.m. when I can go and pick up my baby girl from her 1st day of school.  Oh I must include that Mommy, Daddy & Addi did really good too!  No tears from Mommy or Daddy and Addi only cried a little because she wanted Aubrey to go to Grandma Margie's with her.  We are celebrating Aubrey's day by taking her to her favorite restaurant tonight for dinner... Moe's!  

I will have to fill you in as to how Aubrey says her 1st day went later.... I'm sure it was awesome!  One last picture for you... Addi needed in on the picture taking fun too even though she didn't want to get dressed!

Wrestle Mania

So what is it that makes wrestling with daddy so much fun.  I think the girls could wrestle with daddy all day everyday.  I might wrestle a tiny bit with them but that's it.  My body cannot handle the beating it takes from the girls jumping on me.  So I leave wrestling with the girls up to Jeremy!  A few nights a week the three of them usually end up in the girls room wrestling around on the bed with lots of screams and giggles filling the entire house.  

I love the time that Jeremy takes out of his day to play around with the girls, this is bonding time for them that is irreplaceable.  The part about Wrestle Mania that I don't like however; it usually ends with someone getting hurt.  Yes, most of the time it is either Aubrey or Addi, but sometimes it is daddy too!  They are all just so rough!

Yes she is holding a bat, but never fear it is a semi soft bat, and daddy started the wrestling tonight by chasing them around the house pretending he was going to poke them with it.  So I guess he deserves what might be coming next...  I love listing to the girls work together and plot their attack on daddy, it is great to hear them working together.

When they are all getting tired and dinner is almost ready, there is only one last way to beat dad...

Family Breakfast

As summer winds down the girls have been busy spending time with their different grandparents.  This being said this past week they were home with Jeremy and I 1 evening, the rest of the time they were out and about visiting.  So when I finally picked them up Friday after work it was so nice to spend some time with them and hear all about the fun week they had.  Since I had to work Saturday morning we had to save our family breakfast for Sunday morning.  I woke up Friday feeling like I wanted to make a nice breakfast for everyone.  Normally when this happens Addi is busy sleeping or watching TV and Aubrey is keeping us company and helping cook.  However; this past Sunday the roles were reversed.  

Addi came in from watching cartoons to help make the eggs.  She has only helped make the eggs a few times because usually Aubrey is busy making the eggs so Addi makes the toast.  But this was her chance to finally make the eggs, and she did an awesome job!  They were very good too!!

Aubrey on the other hand, was cashed out on the couch.  She had fallen back asleep watching cartoons and we had to wake her up to eat breakfast.  I didn't mention that by the time breakfast was actually ready it was around 10:00 a.m. We couldn't believe how much she was sleeping, Aubrey is not typically the child that sleeps a lot.  

Our conclusion was that they had so much fun visiting with their grandparents this past week that she was just exhausted.  We finally got her to wake up and enjoy some breakfast with the family!

School Clothes Shopping

Yesterday Aubrey, Mom and I went school clothes shopping for Aubrey.  We has such a great day shopping and hanging out enjoying our girls day.  It is still hard to believe that Aubrey is going to Kindergarten in just a few short weeks.  We decided to head to Ft. Wayne for the day and check out what the stores had to offer.  We were able to get all of Aubrey's shopping completed between Kohl's, JCPenny & Target.  Aubrey was a trooper as I had her try on everything before we bought it.  While at JCPenny Aubrey stumbled across what she called "some stylin' kids" and we just knew this would be the perfect picture for the shopping blog.  Now actually getting Aubrey to pose for some decent photo of her trying on her clothes was next to impossible.  Aubrey couldn't stop acting silly in front of the mirrors long enough to get a really good picture but I got a few okay photos of her. 

After we finished up at JCPenny mom and I decided we should take a little walk around the mall to show Aubrey since she had never been there.  Right outside of the store Aubrey was fascinated with the fountain and enjoyed seeing how far she could throw her coins in, she even has a decent backwards coin toss!

Before leaving the mall we had to take a trip to see the carousel.  I had not been to this mall since they had added the carousel so it was neat to see.  When Aubrey saw it she was so excited and could not wait to take a ride. 

We ended our shopping day with a late lunch and a trip to Target.  Once everyone was tired we decided to call it a day and head back toward home to pick up Addi and drop off mom.  What a great day of memories for our 1st trip school shopping.  

Aubrey thought the day was a SUCCESS!
